LUK, Inc. Names Beth Barto as Its next Chief Executive Officer
December 29, 2016 LUK, Inc., a Fitchburg nonprofit human services agency that provides support for children and families, recently announced that it has named Beth Barto as its chief executive officer.
has been led by David Hamolsky since July when Richard Hooks Wayman stepped down to join the Childrens Defense Fund in Washington, D.C. as national executive director.
Barto will start as CEO on Jan. 1, and Hamolsky will return to his post as clinical director, a position he has held since 2010.
Barto has been employed with LUK since 2006, and currently serves as director of quality assurance and director of trauma services.
During her tenure with LUK, Barto has served as the project leader for the Central Massachusetts Child Trauma Center and the Massachusetts Child Trauma Project. She has also served as clinical supervisor in LUKs placement services, director of residential services, and director of family networks.
In addition to her leadership responsibilities for LUK, Barto presents regularly locally and nationally on topics related to childhood trauma and has shared her work through peer reviewed publications.
Barton earned a Master of Arts degree in mental health counseling from Assumption College.
LUK was founded in 1970 as the Let Us Know Crisis Center, and since then has evolved into a nonprofit multiservice agency focused on improving the safety, health, and emotional well-being of youth, families, and adults.
Today it offers home-based youth and family counseling services, victim services, outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment, trauma recovery treatment and training, foster care, transition to independent living for older youth, young parent support, adventure-based counseling, respite services, group homes for youth, coordination of child welfare services, mentoring, street outreach, peer leadership, and positive youth development services utilizing evidence-based models.
LUK serves more than 2,000 youth, adults and families annually and another 10,000 through prevention, education, and training programs. The agency has 200 employees, over 80 foster homes, three residential program settings and five offices in Fitchburg, Worcester, Webster, and Lowell.
