Mass Mentoring Partnership Raises $137K at Fenway Park Event
Mass Mentoring Partnership
(MMP), a Boston-based statewide nonprofit that supports and advances youth-adult relationships, recently announced that it raised $137,000 at its Annual Champions of Mentoring breakfast, beating its goal by 10%.
The amount raised via this year's event, held last month at Fenway Park, was down from last year's $200,000, MMP said, because it followed the organization's 25th anniversary gala, which itself generated $709,000.
Marty Martinez, president and CEO of MMP, said, "We were thrilled to exceed our goal for Champions this year, especially in light of the fact we just had our 25th anniversary gala in February. We purposely lowered our revenue projections for Champions in light of the gala. That said, we were excited to have so many partners and sponsors come on board this year to support the event."
The breakfast, for the first time, used mobile giving to help raise funds, which enabled attendees to donate electronically while at the event. More than $100,000 was raised from sponsorships, and $22,000 was raised through an online auction.
Lawyers Clearinghouse Raises $220K at Annual Meeting
, a Boston-based nonprofit that provides pro bono legal services to Massachusetts nonprofits and people in need to promote access to justice, strengthen communities, and end homelessness, recently announced that it raised $220,000 at its annual meeting.
The amount raised was reported to be on par with last year's event, which set a fundraising record for the organization.
The Clearinghouse's 29th Annual Meeting, held last month at the offices of Nixon Peabody, drew nearly 200 members of the legal, nonprofit, and business communities.
The organization raised $191,000 from nearly 100 event sponsors. A surprise pledge from John Keith, CEO of Keith Construction, Inc. and Keith Properties and recipient of the Lawyers Clearinghouse Leadership Award, brought the total raised to $220,000.
"This level of support strengthens the Clearinghouse and will enable us to respond to the ever-increasing need for legal services for both those experiencing homelessness and the nonprofit organizations that serve them," the organization noted.
Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers Raises $180K at Gala
The Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers
(MAPS)S, a Cambridge-based nonprofit that works Portuguese-speaking communities to increase access and remove barriers to health, education, and social services, recently announced that it raised $180,000 at its annual Awards Gala.
The gala, held in the spring at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge, drew 440 community and business leaders.
MAPS Executive Director Paulo Pinto said, The MAPS Awards Gala continues to be a celebration of a united and highly diverse communitys pride, success and identity, coming together to raise critical funding in order to help those less fortunate and marginalized members of our communities. As always, when we unite as a community... the possibilities are endless and powerful.
MAPS presented its Person of the Year Award to Lawrence Fish, founder and chairman of the Fish Family Foundation, in connection with his support of MAPS and other organizations working with immigrant communities.
Paula Coutinho, MAPS board president noted that MAPS helped more than 400 people to become naturalized U.S. citizens in 2016.
