August 31, 2017 — The Massachusetts Military Support Foundation, a newly formed nonprofit that helps service members transition from active duty to civilian life, as well as provide educational support for their children, yesterday announced that Don Cox will be its first president and chief executive officer.

Cox currently serves in a similar capacity at the Cape Cod Military Support Foundation, based in Falmouth, which he helped establish three years ago.

Major General Gary W. Keefe, adjutant general of the Massachusetts National Guard, said, “I can’t think of anyone more dedicated and capable of leading this organization than Don Cox. What he’s accomplished in the last few years at Cape Cod Military Support Foundation is remarkable and I look forward to seeing the same success across our great state.”

The Massachusetts Military Support Foundation was created to build upon the model of the Cape Cod Military Support Foundation to expand what was described as "much needed support statewide."

Cox, who has a business background with experience in experience marketing and fundraising, will lead strategic and operational business operations with a focus on distribution of goods and services across Massachusetts.

The foundation is currently seeking a location in the Boston area for its headquarters.

At the Cape Cod Military Support Foundation, Cox led the creation of Children’s Fund programs, including a collaboration with Cape Cod Children’s Museum for a dedicated exhibit and, Dorothy’s Pantry, where military and Coast Guard families can get donations of much needed baby supplies.

He expanded the foundation's Operation Backpack, which plans to distribute more than 4,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to military and Coast Guard children across Massachusetts this year, and established a program for assisting military members with transition to civilian employment.

“I am extremely honored to be selected as the first President & CEO.” said Cox. “To accomplish this vital mission, it will take a broad network of volunteers with the commitment and passion to serve those who serve us. I’m confident the citizens of Massachusetts will step up to help these families who sacrifice every day on our behalf."

Cox previously served as president of Light House Construction Company and was the owner Compass Rose Hospitality Group.

The Cape Cod Military Support Foundation focuses its efforts on five major program areas: The Chaplain’s Fund, which provides critical needs for military families in crisis; the Children’s Program, which supports children; the Education and Transition for Military Program, which assists military members as they navigate the transition from active duty to civilian life; the Scholarship Program for Dependents, which provides post-secondary educational scholarships to children of service men and women; and the annual Military Awards Banquet, which honors the accomplishments of service men and women and civilians who support them.
