Gr. Lowell Comm. Foundation Names Development Leader

March 29, 2018 — The Greater Lowell Community Foundation, based in Lowell, which serves Greater Lowell and the Merrimack Valley, yesterday announced that Howard Amidon has been appointed vice president for philanthropy.

James Linnehan, president and chief executive officer of the Greater Lowell Community Foundation, said, “We are excited to have Howard join our team at this juncture as the community foundation is on a trajectory of growth. Howard’s skills and background will help us achieve our goals of strengthening our community as he heads up development strategy and enhanced donor services."

Amidon, who has than 30 years of professional nonprofit advancement experience, most recently served as director of development at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly and as a development and marketing consultant to Root NS in Salem.

Earlier, he was a senior major gifts officer for Partners in Health in Boston and director in individual giving and operations for the Boston Ballet.

“Lowell is an exciting community with a rich blend of arts, culture, history, and many ethnicities and businesses. I’m very pleased to be here and look forward to working with the community foundation team to continue the work of moving Lowell forward by capitalizing on all that it has,” said Amidon.

Amidon earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education and English from the University of New Hampshire.

The Greater Lowell Community Foundation currently manages $37 million in 350 funds and focuses its support in 20 neighboring cities and towns. Founded in 1997, the foundation has awarded $19 million since 1999.

Among other services, the foundation aims to support nonprofits with financial management expertise, leadership training, and, communications, development, and fundraising strategy

For the year ending Dec. 31, 2015, the foundation reported $7.5 million in revenue, of which $6.0 million came from contributions and grants, and $5.0 million in expenses, according to its most recently available federal tax filing.
