Artspace Community Arts Center Executive Director Steps Down

Cecilia Berger, executive director of Artspace Community Arts Center, a Greenfield nonprofit that encourages and nurtures appreciation of and participation in the arts by offering programs and instruction, has stepped down after serving three years in the post and a total of 18 years with the organization.

Berger said she is leaving to be with her husband, Joseph Berger, dean of the college of education and human development at the University of Massachusetts-Boston, according to a recent report in The Greenfield Recorder.

“I am excited about Artspace moving in an even a better direction,” the paper quoted her. “It really is a jewel for Franklin County and for Greenfield.”

Berger said she established an exit strategy, the paper reported, including training someone to maintain day-to-day functions until Artspace’s board of directors finds a replacement.

Larry Thayer Named Interim ED at Cape Abilities

Cape Abilities, a nonprofit based in Hyannis that provides education, counseling, residential, social, therapeutic, and employment services to individuals with disabilities, this week named Larry Thayer as interim executive director.

Thayer, who previously served president/executive director of Cape Abilities for 25 years, takes over for Rosalie Edes, who steps down July 10 pursue other opportunities to advance services for individuals with disabilities.

"This is the perfect time for Cape Abilities to transition to new leadership," said Edes. "Over the past four years, we have made great strides in all facets of the organization and as we celebrate our 50th anniversary, there is a need for a new leader who can commit to years of service to our important, life-changing mission. We are so fortunate that Larry Thayer will return to support the board in this important search."

Rewarding Work Resources Merges with TILL

Rewarding Work Resources, a Brookline nonprofit that helps people with disabilities, the elderly, and their families hire personal care assistants and direct care workers, recently announced it has merged with Toward Independent Living and Learning (TILL), a Dedham nonprofit that provides resources to support individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health, physical disabilities, and learning disabilities.

The announcement coincides with the retirement of Elenore Parker, who served as president of RWR since she founded the organization in 2004.

"Although I am retiring, Rewarding Work Resources and www.RewardingWork.org will continue to support people with disabilities and their families and help them connect with personal care and in-home caregivers," she said.

Day- to-day operation or RWR will be merged with TILL, which was founded by Dafna Krouk-Gordon in 1980 and continues to serve as president. TILL currently has a staff or more than 1,000 and operates in Peabody, Chelsea, Hyde Park, and Nashua, New Hampshire.

Jericho Road Worcester Is Now ONE Worcester

Jericho Road Worcester, a Worcester nonprofit that provides nonprofits in the greater Worcester area with skilled business volunteers at no charge, recently announced it has renamed to Organization for Nonprofit Excellence (ONE Worcester).

Founded eight years ago, the organizations provides business consulting to nonprofit in the areas of strategic planning, budgeting, marketing , fundraising, human resources, technology, board development, and governance.

Leading ONE Worcester is board chair Attorney Alex Mooradian, an immigration attorney. Barbara Guthrie, formerly executive director of the Rainbow Child Development Center, had been serving as interim director.

Community Consulting Teams Offering $100K Consulting Grants

Community Consulting Teams (CCT), a Boston-based nonprofit that helps Boston area nonprofits address strategic business and management challenges on a pro bono basis, recently announced it is accepting applications for consulting support worth $100,000 each.

CCT said it expects to award grants with a total value of over $1 million. Applicants must be Boston-area 501(c)(3) nonprofits, and project proposals should relate to a key strategic challenge, such as strategic planning, expansion opportunity, situation analysis, marketing strategy, and financial planning.

Abigail Norman, executive director of The Eliot School, a Boston nonprofit that offers classes to people of all ages in woodworking, sewing and yarn, fiber arts, book arts, drawing, painting, photography, and other crafts and fine arts, said, “The CCT enterprise is phenomenal. Our team gave us an immediate path for moving a key program into the black, and even more valuable are the wonderful tools that we never even imagined having."
