July 23, 2018 — The Cape Cod Challenger Club, a nonprofit founded 13 years ago and based in Osterville, which provides athletic, recreational and social activities for people with physical or developmental disabilities, recently named Thomas Lavin as its first executive director.

Lavin, who started in the job last week, noted that the Cape Cod Challenger Club (CCCC) has significant potential to expand, and that he wants to add life skills classes to the roster of programs already offered, according to a report in The Falmouth Enterprise.

“I would say I’m one of those guys who wants to save the world,” he said. “I saw an opportunity to help people and the community," he told the paper.

Prior to joining the organization, Lavin most recently served as regional director for Cape Cod and Nantucket for the Kennedy-Donovan Center, and as an adult support coordinator and program coordinator for The Arc of South Norfolk.

Earlier he served as director of development for The Arc of Cape Cod.

Lavin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and a Master of Public Administration degree, both from Suffolk University.

Founded by Kelvin Ing and Amy Lipkind, CCCC today serves a special needs population numbering 300, and nearly as many volunteers..

CCCC has received recognition and numerous awards for its work on behalf of the special needs community, including the ARC of Cape Cod Volunteers of the Year award in 2012, the Kathleen Roberts Creative Leadership Award from the Massachusetts Teacher’s Association in 2014, and Honorary Membership to the Barnstable High School National Honor Society in 2015.

Most recently, in 2016, CCCC and Ing were recognized as a New England Patriot’s Difference Maker of the Week.
