Cape and Islands United Way Grants $400K to 38 Nonprofits

August 10, 2018 — The Cape and Islands United Way, based in Centerville, recently announced it has awarded $400,000 in grants to 38 area nonprofits that provide services related to education, financial stability and basic needs, health, and housing.

Education-related funds will help support early childhood learning, the expansion of quality out-of- school programs and stress management for school-age children.

Grants given to encourage financial stability include food pantry and emergency services, as well as longer term supports that move families toward financial sustainability.

Funded health initiatives serve people with disabilities, promote healthy aging, and focus on substance abuse prevention.

To address the growing housing challenges, funded programs include both emergency shelter and stopgap solutions – as well as focused case management for families at risk for homelessness.
