September 13, 2018 — Social Venture Partners Boston, a Boston-based philanthropic organization that provides funding to help Greater Boston nonprofits, particularly those that help children and young adults, recently announced that Jessie Cronan has been appointed executive director.

Cronan succeeds Darcy Brownell who served in the post for three years until she stepped down in May for personal reasons.

“Jessie brings the ideal combination of experience, vision and passion that is crucial to our organization as we seek out new partners and solidify our role as the leading catalyst for positive social impact in Boston,” said David Ferreira, board chair of Social Venture Partners Boston (SVP).

Cronan most recently served as executive director of Gardens for Health International, a Boston-based nonprofit that works to combat malnutrition in Rwanda. She also served as the executive director of the Child Relief International Foundation, which supports innovative, early-stage nonprofits working in Africa.

An immediate area of focus for Cronan will be the launch of SVP Boston’s “Citywide Day of Skilled Service,” a first-of-its-kind event, in partnership with Common Impact and Impact 2030. The Sept. 25 event will bring together corporate volunteers and impactful local nonprofits to increase skills-based volunteerism in Boston.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to apply my training and global experience to the place where I grew up,” said Cronan. “Social Venture Partners Boston has a 16-year track record of success in providing operating support, capacity building and other technical expertise to the region’s most promising nonprofits. I look forward to building on its legacy of philanthropy and accelerating its growth in the years ahead.”

Cronan earned a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and a Master in Public Policy degree from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Founded in 2002, SVP Boston, an affiliate of SVP International, is a community of more than 100 partners of business leaders, community leaders, and other individuals who invest their time, expertise, and money in impactful and emerging nonprofit organizations in Greater Boston.
