Daily Table Awarded $35K and Services for Its COVID-19 Work
February 1, 2021 — Daily Table, a Boston-based-nonprofit working to make healthy food available to all, recently was named a “Champion in Action,” an initiative of Citizens Bank and New England Cable News that awards $35,000 in unrestricted funding and promotional and volunteer support.
Daily Table was recognized for its COVID-19 relief work.
“COVID-19 has created and exacerbated so many challenges in our communities, and we are proud to recognize a nonprofit organization that is facing them head on,” said Jerry Sargent, president, of Citizens Massachusetts. “Daily Table is ensuring that fresh, healthy food is accessible and affordable to our neighbors in their communities – a critical effort that is needed now more than ever.”
Doug Rauch, founder and president of Daily Table, said, “At Daily Table, our mission is to help build healthier communities by making truly affordable, nutritious groceries and prepared food available to all. “Our customers have the power of the purse. Shopping with their own dollars gives them a sense of agency and dignity.”
Since COVID-19 hit Massachusetts, Daily Table has been working on a new online grocery ordering and delivery service, and offering free delivery for 1,500 of their most vulnerable customers.
In addition to the cash award, Daily Table will receive features and public service announcements from New England Cable News, volunteer support from Citizens, complimentary membership to the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network, and public relations and promotional support.
According to Daily Table, its food supply model removes economic barriers to eating healthy and provides a dignified way for customers to take control of their diet and provide for their families. Every month, it sells one million nutritional servings of dairy, produce, prepared foods, meat, poultry, fish, and dry goods, and its commissary kitchen prepares 20,000 fresh SNAP-eligible "heat and eat" meals.
Founded in 2012, Daily Table early this year opened its third store in Central Square in Cambridge, augmenting similar stores in the Dorchester and Roxbury neighborhoods of Boston.
For the year ending Dec. 31, 2018, Daily Table reported $1.74 million in revenue, of which $1.43 million came from contributions and grants, and $2.47 million in expenses, according to its most recently available federal tax filing.
