NE Foundation for the Arts Awards $666K to 27 Nonprofits

September 24, 2020 — The New England Foundation for the Arts recently announced that it granted $666,000 to 27 arts and cultural nonprofits across Massachusetts through the New England Arts Resilience Fund, created to help organizations respond to the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.

The New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) said the grants were awarded in particular to support organizations that are led by and deeply engage communities of color.

Receiving the grants were the following:

  • 826 Boston, Boston: $30,000
  • Abilities Dance Boston, Boston: $10,000
  • Angkor Dance Troupe, Lowell: $10,000
  • ANIKAYA, Somerville: $10,000
  • Aquinnah Cultural Center, Aquinnah: $25,000
  • Artists For Humanity, Boston: $30,000
  • ArtsEmerson, Boston: $30,000
  • BAMS Fest, Boston: $35,000
  • Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center, Pao Arts Center, Boston: $20,000
  • Community Music Center of Boston, Boston: $35,000
  • Company One Theatre, Boston: $20,000
  • Double Edge Theatre, Ashfield: $30,000
  • The Front Porch Arts Collective, Boston: $16,000
  • Global Arts Live, Cambridge: $20,000
  • GrubStreet, Boston: $20,000
  • Ko Festival of Performance, Belchertown: $20,000
  • MASS MoCA, North Adams: $30,000
  • New Repertory Theatre, Watertown: $35,000
  • Piti Theatre Company, Shelburne Falls: $10,000
  • Puppet Showplace Theater, Brookline: $20,000
  • Raw Art Works, Lynn: $30,000
  • The Theater Offensive, Boston: $50,000
  • University of Massachusetts, Fine Arts Center, Amherst: $20,000
  • Urbano Project, Boston: $25,000
  • Veronica Robles Cultural Center, East Boston: $20,000
  • The Yard, Chilmark: $30,000
  • ZUMIX, East Boston: $35,000

NEFA said that despite numerous challenges noted by the grant applicants, several opportunities surfaced, including:

  • An increase in engagement with the public through digital channels and advances in technology.
  • A growing emphasis on advancing equity internally and externally during a period of change and reflection.
  • Opportunity to play a leading role in building community cohesion by fostering dialogues and collaborations.
