Western Mass. Funders Award “Helper” Grants to 23 Nonprofits

April 8, 2022 — Four nonprofit funders based in western Massachusetts recently joined forces to provide grants to 23 nonprofits to be used toward staff well-being activities in appreciation of their direct service to the most vulnerable members of Berkshire County during the surge of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus pandemic.

Berkshire United Way in Pittsfield this week announced that it teamed with Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation in Sheffield, Northern Berkshire United Way in North Adams, and Williamstown Community Chest in Williamstown to provide “Help the Helper” grants of $500 each to the nonprofits.

While 16 grants were initially offered, 23 requests were received, with all receiving funding, to be used for specific activities or services that applicants felt would have the greatest impact on supporting their staff, Berkshire United Way said

  • Berkshire Community College Adult Learning Program, Great Barrington
  • Berkshire Family and Individual Resources, North Adams
  • Berkshire Family YMCA, Pittsfield
  • Berkshire Food Project, North Adams
  • Berkshire Immigrant Center, Pittsfield
  • Berkshire Nursing Families, North Adams
  • Berkshire South Regional Community Center, Great Barrington
  • Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity, Pittsfield
  • Child Care of the Berkshires, North Adams
  • Community Health Programs, Great Barrington
  • Community Legal Aid, Pittsfield
  • Community Recreation Association, Dalton
  • ECU-Health Care, North Adams
  • Goodwill Industries of the Berkshires & Southern Vermont, Pittsfield
  • Hevreh of Southern Berkshire, Great Barrington
  • Lee Youth Association, Lee
  • Lenox Library, Lenox
  • Roots Rising, Pittsfield
  • ROOTS Teen Center, North Adams
  • Volunteers in Medicine Berkshires, Great Barrington
  • WAM Theatre, Lenox
  • Youth Center Inc., Cheshire
