May 1, 2020 — Cradles to Crayons, a growing national nonprofit based in Newton that provides homeless or low-income children with supplies for home, school, and play, recently announced the appointment of Aubrey Conquergood as executive director for the organization’s Boston site.

Conquergood assumed her duties earlier this year, succeeding Jennifer Askjaer, who served in the post for 18 months until mid-July.

Aidan Riordan, chair of the Boston board of directors at Cradles to Crayons noted that Conquergood "arrives with a track record of commitment to her community which we are excited to see reflected in her leadership. Speaking for the board of directors, we look forward to establishing a strong relationship so we may continue to effectively address the challenges facing children and families throughout Massachusetts.”

Added Lynn Margherio, CEO and founder of the organization, “Aubrey’s experience tells a story of mission-driven work and passionate engagement with her community, which we excitedly welcome to our Cradles to Crayons family."

Conquergood most recently served as director of development for major gifts at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where she led Beth Israel Lahey Health’s new health technology initiative.

Previously, she served on the executive team at C Space as vice president of client services, where she focused on building strategic partnerships and setting global strategies. She also has extensive brand management experience from her work at Procter & Gamble, Unilever, and Pepperidge Farm.

“By volunteering with my own children over the years, I have experienced first-hand the incredible impact that Cradles to Crayons has on the lives of children in Massachusetts. I believe that all kids across our communities deserve the opportunity to grow and succeed without worrying about having a backpack for school or boots for a cold winter day,” said Conquergood.

Conquergood earned a Bachelor of Science degree in broadcast journalism from Texas Christian University, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Throughout her career, Conquergood has supported community”“driven initiatives including 14 years involved in the start-up and growth of the Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Research Foundation, a global cancer research foundation.

Cradles to Crayons launched in Boston in 2002 and currently has operations in Boston, Philadelphia, and Chicago. The nonprofit provides children from birth through age 12 living in homeless or low-income situations with the essential items they need to thrive, at home, at school, and at play, at no charge. Cradles to Crayons collects new and high-quality used children’s goods and engages thousands of youth and adults in volunteer activities each year on behalf of local children in need.
