January 3, 2022 — Enlace de Familias, a Holyoke nonprofit that provides a range of social services to local residents, recently announced it appointed Frank Martínez López as executive director.

Martinez, succeeds Betty Medina Lichtenstein, who stepped down after serving as executive director of Enlace de Familias for 28 years.

“What inspires me the most is the fact that I’m going to be able to help my own community, the Holyoke community, who taught me everything I know,” Martinez told the Daily Hampshire Gazette.

Prior to joining Enlace, Martinez served as talent acquisition coordinator at MassHire Holyoke Career Center. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in registered nursing from Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico Recinto de Guayama

According to the paper, Medina said the job Martinez is starting differs from the one she is leaving, primarily due to the splitting of roles she formerly held. Her son, Roy Lichtenstein, who has overseeing parenting programs at Enlace for 21 years, has been named director of programs, while Freddy Dejesus a six-year veteran of Enlace, is now director of operations and resources.

“The role that I had is very different than the role that Frank has today because now there is an internal structure to be able to support programs, human resources and operations – the day to day,” Medina was quoted.

Martinez will have responsibility for overall operations planning and strategic development, as well as fundraising.

Enlace was established in 1994 as a coalition of families, representatives for service providers, and other stakeholders, focused on building a healthy and safe community for children. In 2007, Betty Medina Lichtenstein founded Holyoke Unites/Holyoke Se Une in order to build a network of service providers to problem-solve the pressing needs in the Holyoke community.

Today, Enlace provides, among other services, emergency clothing, food, and housing assistance, and programs aimed at strengthening families, including a fathers nurturing program.

For the year ending June 30, 2020, Enlace de Familias reported $921,000 in revenue, of which $854,000 came from contributions and grants, and $828,000 in expenses, according to its most recently available federal financial information filing.
