AG Grants $117K to Four Mass. Nonprofits
The office of the attorney general recently announced it awarded $117,500 to four Massachusetts nonprofits that job training, skill development, and career placement programs for individuals with disabilities.
“These grants will help organizations across Massachusetts strengthen programs, expand staff capacity, and provide job skills training to help individuals with disabilities achieve their professional goals,” said Attorney General Maura Healey. “As many of our communities face economic uncertainty, we are pleased these funds will help improve employment opportunities and support inclusive workplaces in our state.”

Children’s Advocacy Center of Bristol County Names Co-Executive Directors
The Children’s Advocacy Center of Bristol County (CAC) in Fall River, a nonprofit program operated by the Justice Resource Institute (JRI), recently announced the appoint of Cathy Rutkowski and Lara Stone as co-executive directors.
Rutkowski, an employee of JRI for 18 years, manages all aspects of the CAC’s supervision, case management, mental health services and the education and outreach program. While managing the Southern New England Behavioral Health & Trauma Center, she developed and expanded the community-based services program, overseeing in-home therapy and therapeutic mentoring services. Prior to that, she assisted in the startup of an in-home behavioral services program on Cape Cod and southeastern Massachusetts.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, and a Master of Social Work degree from Boston University.
Lara Stone, who joined CAC in 2018, is leading CAC’s $2.5 million capital campaign, previously served as director of development for UMass Dartmouth’s Charlton College of Business and the College of Engineering, director of development at the Women’s Fund of the Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts (now the SouthCoast Community Foundation), and assistant director of the Greater New Bedford Workforce Investment Board.
She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in human ecology from Cornell University, and a Master of Business Administration degree in nonprofit management from Brandeis University’s Heller School of Social Policy and Management.
Nonprofits to Be Impacted by Facebook Restrictions Related to Election
Facebook last week announced it will stop running all social issue, electoral, or political ads in the United States after the polls close on Nov. 3 in an attempt to reduce confusion/abuse on the platform until a clear winner of the presidential race is announced, restrictions which could extend into December.
Currently, Facebook requires many nonprofits, including many 501(c)(3) organizations, to apply a “Paid For by” disclaimer in order to raise funds or find supporters for their causes. All ads that use this disclaimer will automatically be disabled after the polls close on Nov. 3.
“Of course, nonprofits raise a significant portion of their annual giving for the entire year during November and December. That means that the consequences of the ban are especially serious because of the time of year: organizations will not be able to use ads on one of the largest platforms,” noted M+R, a consultancy to nonprofits on social issues.
