Cummings Foundation Awards $9.7M to 29 Mass. Nonprofits
October 16, 2020 — The Cummings Foundation today announced it awarded $9,713,000 to 29 nonprofit organizations in Middlesex, Essex, and Suffolk counties, each of which received $100,000 from the foundation in June.
The new grants, to be disbursed over 10 years, were awarded through a competitive process that included a Zoom presentation to a panel of Cummings Foundation volunteers.
“Greater Boston is so fortunate to have a wealth of effective nonprofits that are listening to the community and working to meet its needs,” said Cummings Foundation grants manager Christina Berthelsen. “By providing a full decade of support, we hope to alleviate some of the constant fundraising burden, enabling nonprofit staff to spend more time actually providing services.”
The nonprofits selected to receive the added funding are:
The foundation also awarded $300,000 to the Wilmington Police Department.
In the first phase of this philanthropic initiative, 130 nonprofits each were awarded $100,000 in June. In the second phase, delayed until the fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic, repeat grant winners were considered to have their $100,000 grants elevated to 10-years awards.
