Four Mass. Nonprofits Each Get $30K in Consulting Support

January 6, 2019 — The Highland Street Foundation, based in Newton, last week announced it is funding six months of consulting support, valued at $30,000, to each of four nonprofits, in Lowell, Boston, and New Bedford, aimed at helping them enhance their long term growth and sustainability.

The support, from the Community Impact Consultants program of the Highland Street Foundation, matches independent consultant with the nonprofits to strengthen, support, and strategically guide their organization to better serve constituents and the community.

The nonprofits now receiving consulting support through June are:
  • Brighton Marine, based in Boston, a community for uniformed service member transitions and a resource hub of military, veteran, and family services in the Greater Boston area.

  • East Boston Social Centers, a multi-service nonprofit based in East Boston that provides a range of services primarily for low-income children and families.

  • UTEC, based in Lowell, which helps young adults, ages 17 to 25 who return to their communities from incarceration or have other histories of serious criminal and/or gang involvement, overcome the challenges of poverty, gang involvement, unemployment, and cultural barriers.

  • YWCA Southeastern Massachusetts, based in New Bedford, which works to eliminate racism and empower women through advocacy and local programming.
In addition to frequent monitoring throughout the six months, the consultants are asked to develop a progress report at the three-month mark. The engagement will also generate a report identifying specific measurable indicators for each outcome and a long-term strategic plan for the organization.

Initiatives frequently supported include fundraising and development planning, strategic plan development, communications and public relations, marketing and branding, board development and governance, and accounting and financial planning.

Any 501(c)(3) organization based in Massachusetts with an annual operating budget between $500,000 and $4 million may apply to participate in the program.
