Community Foundation of Western Mass. Grants $595K

January 7, 2019 — The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts in Springfield last week announced it recently awarded $595,200 to 43 nonprofits in Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire counties to expand their impact by funding new and upgraded technology, equipment, and facilities, or build organizational effectiveness and operational efficiency.

The grants, from the Capital Grant and Capacity Grant programs, two of six competitive grantmaking programs administered by the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, were as follows:
  • 1794 Meetinghouse, New Salem: $8,000 for expanding operational capacity

  • Ascentria Community Services, Worcester: $15,200 for creating an adult learning hub for new Americans

  • Baystate Health Foundation, Palmer: $26,000 for Baystate Wing Hospital Emergency Department patient monitors

  • Bethlehem House, Easthampton: $4,500 for purchase of printer/copier

  • Birthday Wishes, Newton: $10,000 for fund development training and execution

  • Brick House Community Resource Center, Turners Falls: $15,000 for The Brick House strategic planning and fundraising project

  • Cancer Connection, Northampton: $11,500 for website redesign

  • Center for New Americans, Northampton: $12,000 for Embracing Technology, Embracing Growth

  • Chester Theatre Company, Chester: $10,000 for renovation of 4 Main Street

  • Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society, Springfield: $12,400 for improved communications phone system

  • Davenport Child Care, Chesterfield: $17,400 for preschool playground renovation

  • Double Edge Theatre Productions, Ashfield: $15,000 for mapping management for a sustainable future

  • Franklin County Community Meals Program, Greenfield: $7,000 for increasing perishable food storage capacity for the orange food pantry

  • Franklin Land Trust, Shelburne Falls: $12,000 for a community barn raising

  • Friends of the Montague Common Hall, Montague: $10,000 for Montague Common hall roof repair & renovation

  • Gardening the Community, Springfield: $20,000 for infrastructure improvements for Walnut Street Farm

  • Hilltown Community Health Centers, Worthington: $19,800 for ADA improvements grant

  • Hilltown Land Trust, Ashfield: $14,500 for building capacity

  • Hitchcock Center for the Environment, Amherst: $4,500 for outdoor classroom - Outdoor storage & rainwater collection system

  • Holyoke Young Men's Christian Association, Holyoke: $11,800 for gymnasium curtain replacement project

  • Kestrel Land Trust, Amherst: $10,000 for strengthening the future of valley land conservation through strategic communications

  • Link to Libraries, Hampden: $15,000 for strategic growth and fund diversification planning

  • Mary Lyon Education Fund, Shelburne Falls: $11,700 for planning for the future of the Mary Lyon Foundation

  • Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange, Newton: $5,000 for capacity building

  • Massachusetts Review, Amherst: $8,000 for capacity-building

  • Mental Health Association, Springfield: $20,000 for renovations for the MHA Women’s Program Community-Based Home

  • Multicultural Community Services of the Pioneer Valley, Springfield: $20,000 for office building window upgrade

  • North Quabbin Citizen Advocacy, Orange: $15,000 for sustainability through donor and community engagement

  • Northampton Education Foundation, Northampton: $10,000 for expanding NEF's capacity through updated online communications strategies

  • Quaboag Valley Community Development Corporation, Ware: $5,000 for 23 West Main Project

  • Robert F. Kennedy Academy, Springfield: $20,000 for RFK Academy Initiative

  • Roca, Chelsea: $19,800 for vehicle request for Roca's Young Mothers Program in Hampden County

  • Second Chance Animal Services, East Brookfield: $19,800 for medical equipment to help pets in underserved communities

  • ServiceNet, Northampton: $20,000 for renovation of ServiceNet's outpatient clinic at 50 Pleasant Street, Northampton

  • Springfield Museums Corporation, Springfield: $25,900 for Springfield Science Museum Evolution: Phase One

  • Stanley Park of Westfield, Westfield: $20,000 for basketball court project

  • Stavros Center for Independent Living, Amherst: $20,000 for facility renovation for independent living services in Hampden County

  • Tapestry Health Systems, Florence: $11,600 for Northampton relocation of tapestry's sexual and reproductive health clinic

  • Tolland Volunteer Fire Department, Tolland: $7,500 for Washer Dryer Project

  • Trauma Institute and Child Trauma Institute, Northampton: $10,000 for organizational capacity and revenue enhancement consultation and planning

  • Valley Eye Radio, Springfield: $20,000 for accessible local broadcasting expansion project

  • Womanshelter Compañeras, Holyoke: $15,000 for shelter bathroom renovation

  • World Affairs Council of Western Massachusetts, Springfield: $9,300 for website and database upgrade
