Gr. Lowell Comm. Foundation Grants $550K to 31 Nonprofits

March 28, 2021 — The Greater Lowell Community Foundation recently announced it granted $550,142 to 31 nonprofits that are providing relief to area residents who have been adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

“After a year of granting from the GLCF COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund, through the generosity of our donors as well as the partnership of the Commonwealth, we are continuing to fund essential needs in Greater Lowell,” said GLCF Jay Linnehan, president and CEO of the Greater Lowell Community Foundation (GLCF). “This round supports the nonprofits lifting our neighbors facing extreme challenges caused by the pandemic.”

The following organizations received funding, provided by the state’s COVID Grant Program and the GLCF COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund:

  • Aaron’s Presents: For keeping teens engaged and creative during the pandemic
  • Boys and Girls Club of Greater Billerica: For COVID-19 remote learning and STEAM enrichment
  • Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lowell: For educational support
  • Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association: For emergency response
  • Catie’s Closet: For meeting the COVID-19 needs of the Lowell community
  • The Center for Hope and Healing: For supporting BIPOC and LGBQ/T youth
  • Coalition for a Better Acre: For pandemic response 2021
  • Community Teamwork: For COVID relief projects
  • Dwelling House of Hope: For food pantry
  • Girls, Inc. of Greater Lowell: For remote learning
  • Greater Lowell Family YMCA: For remote learning
  • Greater Lowell Health Alliance: For equitable COVID-19 vaccine community education roll-out
  • House of Hope: For COVID prevention baskets
  • International Institute of New England: For food supplies and rental assistance
  • Life Connection Center: For COVID 19 basic needs emergency
  • Lowell Community Health Center: For patient access services
  • Lowell House: For housing stabilization
  • The Megan House Foundation: For COVID-19 relief support
  • Merrimack Valley Food Bank: For food assistance in Lowell
  • Mill City Grows: For increasing food security in Lowell
  • Minute Man Arc for Human Services – Safeguarding children with disabilities during COVID-19 pandemic
  • Nashua River Watershed Association: For Wednesday Walks with NRWA naturalists
  • NFI Massachusetts: For COVID 19 essential supplies support for Lowell
  • Northeast Legal Aid: For supporting Lowell tenants facing eviction
  • Project Home Again: For new items program
  • Sankofa Support Services: For diaper distribution program
  • Troubled Waters: For bi-lingual recovery coach program
  • UTEC: For meals for Dracut and Tyngsboro elders
  • VNA Care Network: For frontline nurses and COVID-19 patient isolation kits
  • Wayside Youth & Family Support Network: For personal protective equipment and to address food insecurity
  • YWCA of Lowell: For youth educational enrichment support

Since March 2020, GLCF said, the foundation has awarded 263 grants totaling $3.3 million to 177 local nonprofit organizations through its GLCF COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund, the Massachusetts COVID Relief Fund, and the Commonwealth COVID Grant Program.
